ONE Championship、元UFCライト級王者・エディ・アルバレスと複数試合契約

　ONE Championshipは16日、元UFCライト級王者・エディ・アルバレスと複数試合契約を結んだと発表した。

　アルバレスは現在34歳。19歳だった03年にMMAデビュー。06年8月のMARS両国国技館大会で初来日し小池秀信に1R TKO勝ち。08年に旗揚げしたDREAMではアンドレ・ジダ、ヨアキム・ハンセン、川尻達也、菊野克紀に勝利。ベラトールでは09年に初代ライト級王者となり、11年にマイケル・チャンドラーに王座を奪われたが、13年に奪還した。青木真也にはDREAM時代の08年大晦日に1R 1分32秒 ヒールホールドで敗れたが（下写真）、12年のベラトールでの再戦では1R 2分14秒 TKO勝ちしている。

　14年からUFCに参戦し、最初のドナルド・セラーニ戦では敗れたが、ギルバート・メレンデス、アンソニー・ペティスに連勝した後、16年7月にハファエル・ドス・アンジョスのライト級王座に挑戦し1R TKO勝ち。同年11月のコナー・マクレガーとの初防衛戦で敗れ、その後は1勝1敗1無効試合。今年7月のダスティン・ポワリエ戦でTKO負けした試合でUFCとの契約がいったん切れていた。UFCとも再交渉していたが、アルバレスは青木もいるONEを新たな戦場に選んだ。

　今やアジア圏では最大の勢力を誇るONE Championship。アルバレス獲得で、これまで手薄だった欧米圏での大会認知度・中継収益アップにつながり、他の強豪選手の呼び水にもなるだろう。当然、ONEの元ライト級王者で次は王座戦となりそうな青木と、アルバレスの3度目の対決の機運、日本でのONEの存在感もより高まることになりそうだ。
